Northwest University in Xi'an – capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province – celebrated its 120th anniversary on Nov 15 and held a conference on the construction and promotion of the double world-class project.

Zhao Yide, deputy secretary of the CPC Shaanxi Provincial Committee and governor of Shaanxi, congratulated Northwest University on its 120th anniversary.
Zhao said the university has actively served major national strategies and local economic and social development. It has also trained a large number of high-quality innovative talent and made important contributions to the development of the country, especially Shaanxi, he added.
Wang Yajie, Party secretary of Northwest University, presided over the celebration and the conference. In his speech, Guo Lihong, president of Northwest University, expressed his gratitude to all the people who care about and support the development of the university.

Among those delivering keynote speeches on site or via video were Wang Shuguo, president of Xi'an Jiaotong University and Lorna Fox O'Mahony, president of the University of Essex in the United Kingdom, as well as Fabio Pollice, president of the University of Salento in Italy.
The conference also awarded commemorative medals to the faculty and staff members who have worked in Northwest University for 60 years or more.
Over the past 120 years, Northwest University has trained more than 400,000 graduates for the country.
The carbon emissions generated by the conference were neutralized through the Chinese Certified Emission Reduction program, a voluntary program in which participants can trade carbon credits, making Northwest University the first university in China to achieve carbon neutrality in school celebration activities.
